To be frank, there is no difference between those two kitchen appliances. The names such as fry pan and skillet referred to the same kitchen appliance. The frying pan or skillet is a flat pan, which is having shallow sides that has a lot or some slope. It is also designed with a lid. The only difference between them is shape of the sides.

Appearance and Physical Dimensions

The skillets are deep in shape similar to sauce pans, which are also called frying pans. The frying pan is a kitchen appliance, which is designed with long handles for frying food. These pans are not for the purpose of braising or slow cooking. These are not designed with lids due to absence of seal. The pans are surrounded by flared out sides, but the height is shallow. The basic requirement of a frying pan is it should be in low weight to move easily. All frying pans or skillets are molded with long handles to protect hands from heating. The size of each skillet or frying pan is seven to eight inches.
